So here's the deal. Back in the spring of 2008 poptiki of colorado (us) committed to make the event mug for the fraternal order of moai's hot rod hula hop 4 (a natural, with us being fellows of the order). So we set out to create 100 mugs for the event in 4 different glaze colors.
Well during the process (as is wont to happen when you hand make a product), we had one batch come out rather different than we expected, as the glaze didn't quite flow like it was suppoesd to (turns out we were sold the wrong stuff). So rather than scrap them, we tried to save it by putting another coat fo a clear glaze on it. We fired one of these mugs as a test, and well, it didn't come out in the rich brown like the others ni the run. But ti did come out spectacularly well. The glaze has a depth and a dimension we've not seen before, it almost has the look of suede leather. So, since it didn't match, we abandoned our rescue plans, and poured some more mugs and finished out the production run, which was a huge hit.
And since this mug was so interesting, i decided to add it to my personal collection. Until this week. We got news of some friends who are hitting a rough spot financially and are having a tough time making ends meet. These are really fantastic folks who just need a little help, like we all do at some point. So, we here at ptoc decided as part of our efforts to give them a hand, to go ahead and auction off this mug for their benefit.
100% of what you bid will be giong directly help these people get through the holidays a little easier. And in addition, we're going to ship it to you free. Now about the mug.
Since it came from the run, but didn't meet the specifications of the run, we're calling it a production second. Btu that in no way means that this is not a first quality mug (we wouldn't sell it if it wasn't). It's marked ptoc on the bottom and numbered #47. It has also been stapmed with a 2 to denote that it's not the 47 of the run.
And, just for kicks, i'm going to have pop (the artist) sign the bottom fo it. It should be noted that all of this design of mug were only sold at the event, and none have been made publicly before. And since the run is sold out, ti is very unlikely to see one for sale again.
